He spent over 20 years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he developed technologies for biomass and waste conversion, which he continues to refine to support integrated solutions for the 21st-century bioeconomy. An engineer with expertise in biological systems and sustainability, he has authored over 75 publications, six patents, and eight books or chapters. Most recently he has worked on developing circular bioeconomy solutions for the food and Ag sector, developing a novel pathway to produce a soil additive and clean hydrogen from food waste.

Curt Nelson

Curt Nelson is the Western Division Sales Manager at Certis Biologicals, a role he has held for almost two years after serving as Regional Sales Manager for five years. A Cal Poly graduate with a degree in Animal Science, Curt brings decades of experience in sales and marketing within the agricultural industry.

Before joining Certis, Curt worked at Marrone Bio Innovations as Coastal Sales Manager and held key roles at Western Farm Service, ADAMA, AgraQuest, and Kleen Globe, Inc. He is an expert in crop protection and irrigation equipment, particularly for specialty agriculture in California.

Curt holds PCA, QAL, and CDL licenses in California and serves on the advisory committee for Pacheco High School FFA. Based in Dos Palos, CA, he is committed to supporting growers with Certis Biologicals’ innovative and effective biopesticide solutions.

Robert Mebane Willmott

Robert Willmott is an accomplished agricultural professional with a master’s degree in plant science from California State University, Fresno. With over a decade of experience in crop production and research, he has served as Interim Farm Manager at Fresno State, overseeing 27 diverse enterprises and leading efforts in irrigation automation, food safety compliance, and sustainable farming practices.

Robert has been instrumental in facilitating research projects, training students, and organizing field labs on topics such as integrated pest management, soil health, and crop nutrition. Recognized for his dedication, he has received accolades like the Paramount Citrus Fellowship and the 2023 Plant Science Staff Award. His expertise in orchard and field crop production, regenerative agriculture, and agricultural technology makes him a trusted leader in California agriculture.

Marc Lajeunesse is considered a serial entrepreneur with over 35 years of experience developing innovative businesses in North/South America. Marc found his love for the Agricultural world while working in Colombia in stevia fields and began developing solutions for very aggressive plant diseases. Marc took his experience to the U.S. in ‘13 launching a series of new and unique organic pesticides and bio-logical concepts aimed help growers achieve not only higher yields but reducing in-put costs, carbon footprint while endorsing the sustainable/regenerative models.

Hailing from Italy, where her family owns a small farm, Alice is dedicated to supporting growers and ensuring beautiful, healthy harvests of fruits and vegetables. She holds a Ph.D. in agroecology from Utah State University and is dedicated to advancing practices that support both environmental stewardship and agricultural productivity, ensuring that farmers can achieve sustainable and prosperous harvests while maintaining ecological balance.

Vishal Shinde, Ph.D.

Vishal’s passion for agricultural research began during his upbringing on a farm. After obtaining a Master’s in Agrochemicals and Pest Management, he pursued a PhD in biological pest management (Entomology). With a decade of experience at the world’s largest sugarcane research institute, he transitioned to a postdoctoral position at UC Berkeley focusing on strawberry research. Over his 15-year career for a CRO in California and other states. He gained expertise in agronomy, soil science, fertility, biostimulants, and environmental sciences. Vishal’s well-rounded background, including a Master’s in agrochemicals, a doctorate in pest management, post-doc in plant pathology and experience in biostimulants/ biofertilizer’s agronomy allows him to bridge research with practical applications for the betterment of farmers and the agricultural industry, in general. Established and owns a Contract Research Organization, Growers Research and Innovation Network (GRIN) and developed 100s of acres of field research Stations in Central Coast and another in Central Valley, California. Not only established and owns 35 acres of hydroponic organic blueberry operation but also helps/consult many growers in California through his research and farming experience.

Thomas Van Groningen

Northern California/Nevada Regional Sales Manager

Tommy Van Groningen is the Northern California/Nevada Regional Sales Manager at Certis Biologicals, based in Ripon, CA. A Fresno State graduate with a B.S. in Crop Production Management, Tommy is a licensed PCA (Pest Control Advisor) and CCA (Certified Crop Advisor).

With extensive experience in agriculture, he has worked on the retail side of the industry and as head agronomist for his family’s 4,000-acre farm, managing crops like almonds, watermelons, and cucurbits, and achieving record-setting yields. At Certis, Tommy is dedicated to supporting PCAs and growers by providing solutions and expertise for effective product use, with a particular focus in products like Howler® EVO, Sil-Matrix®, and LifeGard®.

Outside of work, Tommy enjoys golfing, fishing, duck hunting, coaching boxing, and practicing jiu-jitsu.

Mir Seyedbagheri

Director of Research and Development

Mir is a professor emeritus at the University of Idaho who specializes in soil science and agronomy, as well as biometeorology. He achieved academic recognition on the Dean’s and National Dean’s Lists while in graduate school, as well as a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

For over four years, Mir directed the research and development division at Humic Growth Solutions. In this capacity, Mir consulted with numerous growers and industry representatives nationwide and globally on matters of soil health and crop management. He also parlayed his decades-long efforts in solubilizing the humin portions of humic substances into overseeing the manufacture of dynamic humic products. These products, reflecting Mir’s research, applied abilities, and unique intellectual properties, have offered clear and quantifiable results.

In his myriad of duties, Mir also worked in over 20 countries, such as China, Vietnam, Egypt, Brazil, Chile, Canada, UAE, and Turkey, to implement nutrient management programs for crop production, utilizing a variety of crops. In addition, for over fifteen years prior, Mir conducted field research and trained Actagro’s technical field advisors on the applied science of humic substances. He also gave numerous technical presentations to former CPS farm advisors on Actagro products and outreach.

He has gained particular national and international recognition for his creative and innovative applied research on the effects of humic substances (functional carbon) on soil and plant metabolisms. In addition, Mir has given over 380 talks (many as a keynote speaker) and published a multitude of abstracts, book chapters, and articles worldwide on soil health matters. Mir was the co-chair of the International Humic Substances Society, Committee on Applied Research in Soil, Nutrient Management, and Crop Production.

He has also implemented many groundbreaking and innovative research projects in the areas of soil sustainability and regenerative ag, functional carbon extraction, soil microbiometers, salt remediation, crop production, and desertification. Mir implemented Smart Designs, such as soil, water sensors, satellite imagery, and remote crop-monitoring practices. In addition, he has cooperated on a myriad of Harvest Quality Vision projects.

Mir has also been a pioneer in humic substances research in Idaho and the Pacific Northwest. His research has been disseminated throughout the state, nationally, and internationally. He was also invited to present on sustainable and regenerative ag, along with organic farming at numerous conferences, locally, statewide, nationally, and globally.

Mir is the recipient of 34 scholarly and prestigious state, regional, national, and international awards, including the 2016 Hall of Fame Award in Agriculture, two Excellence in Research awards from the governor of Idaho, and the Excellence in Outreach and Diversity awards from the University of Idaho. He maintains long-standing memberships in 6 prestigious national and international scholarly and scientific societies.

Dave Goorahoo, Ph.D.

Dr. Dave Goorahoo is a distinguished professor in the Department of Plant Science at California State University, Fresno, where he has served for 24 years. He specializes in teaching courses on irrigation, plant nutrition, organic production, soil health, and vegetable crops. Dr. Goorahoo’s research focuses on water management, conservation, and nutrient-use efficiency in vegetable crop production systems.

Collaborating with the campus Center for Irrigation Technology, Dr. Goorahoo has developed impactful training materials and programs that benefit growers and communities in California’s Central Valley and beyond. His dedication to teaching, research, and outreach has earned him numerous accolades, including the Irrigation Association’s Excellence in Education Award. A strong advocate for workforce development, he actively contributes to the Irrigation Association’s education advisory group.

Dr. Goorahoo’s work bridges academia and practical application, with a focus on the environmental and agricultural challenges of the San Joaquin Valley, particularly in soil, air, and water resources. His efforts have significantly advanced sustainable practices in agriculture while empowering the next generation of professionals in the field.
